Palm Geocaching Hint Decoder

Encrypted hints are provided with each of the geocache descriptions given on www.geocaching.com. Software such as GPX Spinner automatically decode the hints for you when the hints are correctly in the "hints" field. But sometimes the encoded hints are included in a way that they are not automatically decoded. That's where Hint Decoder comes in.

I found this program several years ago on the 'net. A few months later, someone in the Geocaching.com forums was asking for a program such as this, so I did a Google search and couldn't find it. I looked on my hard drive and found the original zip file. The readme contained an email address so I emailed to ask where the file was currently posted, and offered to host it if needed.

I got a response from his widow frown Apparently the author died unexpectedly and his widow pulled all his software off the net. She wrote: "His software applications are currently disabled and not available. At this time, I'm not interested in having this application hosted anywhere else." While I respect her feelings, I also disagree with her. It seems to me it would be better to honor his work by keeping it available, since it is so useful, so I wrote back to her and implored her to reconsider. I never received a response.

The readme for the program states, "This archive is freely redistributable, provided it is made available only in its complete, unmodified form with no additional files." So here it is in it's complete, unmodified form.

Please post a comment here if you find it useful.
