Sept 14 - Made it to Wyoming.. Barely
After several uneventful days driving through Nevada and Idaho, we arrived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We were planning on spending the next couple of days in the Grand Tetons National Park, but just as we were coming into Jackson Hole, some guy pulled next to us and pointed at our trailer then made an urgent spinning motion with his hands. We pulled over to the side of the road, and I walked back to inspect the trailer. Because of his signs, I checked out the tires first. Nope, none were flat. But when I walked around the rear, I smelled burning rubber. I then looked closer at the tires and noticed the two on the driver side were rubbing against each other. Hmmm. That could be a problem
I went back to the truck and reported my finding to Angel. After a short discussion, she got on the phone to AAA, and I looked in my GPS for auto service centers nearby. The closest (a half mile away) was called Wedco Mufflers and Fabrication so I called them to see what they fabricate. Trailers. Bingo!
I figured I had driven Dog knows how far with the tires rubbing, so another 1/2 mile wasn't going to be any worse. I told Angel to forget AAA. We drove to Wedco, and imediately got one of the technicians to take a look. He crawled under and found the problem right away. One of the spring mounts had broken.
The tech and I went into the office to look at the schedule, and found that all the techs were busy until about noon the next day, which was Friday. Then one of the techs would be done with a project he was working on and could fix our broken spring mount. We moved the rig to a back section of the parking lot and the nice guys at Wedco fixed us up with A/C power. Fortunately I had a mostly full tank of water.
I say "fortunately" because we used to always travel with a full tank of water. But during our drive home from Texas in June, while crossing the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, I had the realization that hauling around 700 pounds of water, when we usually stay at full-hookup RV camps, is just a waste of fuel economy. So I started traveling with just a few gallons to flush the toilet during the day. I must have had a premonition because I happened to fill up the water tank that morning before leaving the RV park in Idaho Falls.
After dealing with all that, Angel was in no mood to cook dinner so we went into town. We walked around the downtown area for a little while, and even got our picture taken by Mc5 at a webcam cache. Several restaurants had a hour or more wait, but we walked a block or two away from the town square and found a nice Thai place with outdoor seating. The weather and food was excellent!
